A star-studded relic from Bollywood’s golden era
Produced by Raja Roy, the film brings together a formidable cast that reflects the scale and ambition of mainstream Hindi cinema at the time it was made. The ensemble includes Rajinikanth, Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, Anita Raj, Prem Chopra, Sharat Saxena, Sharad Saxena, along with late legends Amrish Puri and Jagdeep.

The project was helmed by late filmmaker Harmesh Malhotra and backed by an equally celebrated creative team. Dialogues were written by Salim–Faiz, music was composed by the iconic Laxmikant–Pyarelal duo with lyrics by Anand Bakshi, while choreography was crafted by Saroj Khan.
Why the film never released
Although Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun was fully shot, it was never submitted for certification, leaving the film suspended indefinitely.

The delay was triggered by a deeply personal tragedy. Soon after principal photography wrapped up, producer Raja Roy moved to London for business, where he suffered the heartbreaking loss of his young son. The emotional toll brought the project to a standstill.
Over time, further setbacks followed, including the untimely passing of director Harmesh Malhotra, pushing the film further into obscurity.
A journey of perseverance and belief
Reflecting on the film’s improbable journey, Raja Roy said the team never truly gave up hope. “This film has endured grief, setbacks, and long periods of silence. Today, it finally feels like destiny completing its circle,” he shared.
Associate producer Aslam Mirza echoed the sentiment, describing the release as the result of years of persistence and faith in the project.

Restoration without reinvention
To prepare the film for modern audiences, Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun has undergone AI-assisted restoration, 4K remastering and 5.1 surround sound mastering. However, the makers were careful to preserve the film’s original spirit.
According to the team, AI tools were used strictly for visual smoothening and audio enhancement. Performances, screenplay, and narrative structure remain untouched, ensuring the film retains the authenticity of the era in which it was made.

A cinematic time capsule
Shot on 35 mm Eastman Colour using classic Eastman Kodak film stock, the movie carries a visual texture reminiscent of Technicolor-style processing. Its scale, performances and aesthetic offer a rare glimpse into the storytelling sensibilities of its time.
Presented by Rex Music Entertainment and produced under the banner of Raja Roy Films, Hum Mein Shahenshah Kaun now stands ready to reclaim its place on the silver screen, not as a remake or reimagining, but as a preserved slice of Bollywood history.
After 37 years of waiting, the film is finally set to meet the audience it was always meant for.
